As Christianity spread north-northwest into Scandinavia, missionaries found Nordic myths and ethos were stubborn. Accommodations resulted in tolerating pagan images in churches and balancing the Christian ethic of forgiveness with Viking blood feuds and conquests. To this day, an ersatz blend of Christian and Viking sensibilities surfaces in white supremacist “churches.”
