YOUTH & Young adults

Youth and Young Adults are the future right now. They are treasured Pilgrims - as they are now, not for who they might become. We learn from them, support them on their unique faith journeys, and grow with them. Our programming is designed around these four pillars:

  • Connect – build community with each other and the wider church

  • Explore – mature in faith by asking questions

  • Grow – nurture a personal relationship with God

  • Serve – put our faith into action

Middle School & High School Youth Group

All youth 6th-12th grade are invited to participate in our Still Speaking Youth Group - and to bring their friends! We typically meet once a month for activities that range from pure fun & fellowship to learning & helping others.  Events are tailored to the interests of the youth in the group, which have included bowling, book clubs, escape rooms, cultural field trips and volunteering at local service agencies. In addition we enjoy participating with other UCC youth at association, national and local church events.

Summer Mission Trip

One of the highlights each year is our Middle & High School Mission trip.  This event is open to Pilgrim youth and friends - all are welcome who want to explore and grow in faith through action.  The one-week trip typically takes place during the 2nd half of July, and we have partnered with a variety of organizations - YouthWorks, DOOR, Appalachia Service Project.  We participate in a mix of urban, rural and even international mission experiences as we seek to hear the voice and see the face of God all around us.

Confirmation

Confirmation at Pilgrim consists of an eight month program (October-May) where students in grade 8 learn about the teachings and practices of Christianity. Most importantly, students are challenged to explore their own faith and what it means to them as they are encouraged & supported by the Pilgrim Congregational Church Community.

Young Adult Ministry

The end of High School is the beginning of a new phase of “adulting”. We are committed to continuing to journey with our Young Adults, providing emotional, spiritual and community support as they navigate “what’s next”. Often we don’t see our 18-24 year olds as frequently as we did when they were younger, so we stay connected through holiday care packages and fellowship events during Winter and Summer breaks. Favorite events have included escape rooms, axe throwing and simply grabbing a good meal together.
