Pilgrims love music and it is an essential part of our worship. Through singing and playing together, we build community, use and develop our musical gifts, and grow in our walks with God.  Throughout the year we sing traditional hymns, choral anthems, and gospel music. We invite you to participate in our music ministry by joining the chancel choir, the handbells, or strings and wind ensemble; sharing your gifts as a special soloist during worship; and and by raising your voice in song during Sunday worship. We seek to create both a spiritual and educational space for all who are interested, whether you are a novice or a professional musician, and wherever you may be on your spiritual journey.  

The Chancel Choir 

The Chancel Choir is a voluntary ensemble that shares their message in song weekly from September to early June. No auditions are required to participate; we just ask for a desire to sing and a commitment to attend rehearsals. The choir meets from 7:30-8:30 pm on Wednesdays. In addition to weekly services, the choir presents a biennial choral masterwork. At that time, volunteers from the community are invited to sing, accompanied by a professional chamber ensemble. In the past, we have shared musical gems like Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio, Forrest’s Mass for the Living, Mendelssohn’s St. Paul and Elijah and Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem. As Pilgrim celebrates her 150th anniversary in 2024, we will reprise David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus.  

Handbells

Our handbell ensemble has reinvigorated itself as PPE, not Personal Protective Equipment, but also the salutary Pandemic Pealers’ Ensemble. We welcome any interested percussionists, whether experienced or total beginners, who want to participate in a musical ensemble and provide occasional music for worship.  

The Good News Ensemble 

Our Good News Ensemble consists of string and wind players. Teens and adults rehearse and provide music for Sunday worship four times a year in varying instrumental combinations.  You are welcome to join us at any time!
