While Moses is atop the mountain sorting things out with the Divine Lawgiver, the impatient people below decide they’ve got a better way—which is just about the worst thing they can do. Soon their personal wealth and (more dangerously) their trust gets melted down to make something more concrete and three-dimensional. It’s a terrible idea.  (Ex. 32-34)
