With social and legal structures in place, the nomadic community undertakes its greatest challenge: creating a spiritual anchorage for God’s presence. But this is neither a temple nor any other sort of sacred destination. It’s a moveable feast, holy and portable by design, a contradiction that people in transition will find perplexing and reassuring. (Ex. 25-27)
