The plague narrative of Exodus presents a clash of two wills: Pharaoh’s intention and God’s decision. In his fight to maintain a status quo, Pharaoh visits dire hardship on his own people—ultimately for no purpose other than defending an unsustainable socioeconomic model. Looking at Exodus’s depiction of trickle-up economics invariably uncovers parallels today. (Ex. 5-10)
