Epilogue (Job 42:9-17)

Job’s saga ends on a “happily ever after” note that smacks of editorial imposition to ensure the drama reads like a morality play. Job’s friends get their comeuppance; his losses are restored. But does the tidy moral undermine this brilliant and difficult work? Might it be a better story if we left its questions open-ended, especially since we still struggle with them to this day?
