Clinging to Bad Theology (Job 8-17)

It doesn’t take long for Job and his friends to start chasing their tails as they discuss reasons for suffering and God’s role in human affairs. Like many religionists, Job’s pals come to the topic with their theology worked out, as is their privilege since “suffering” is an abstract concept for them. It’s not so easy for Job. His pain is all too real, and his questions are hard-edged.
