Bathsheba

The story of David and Bathsheba may be the world’s oldest “Me Too” narrative. The powerful king spies the beautiful woman, literally takes her, and assumes he’s done with her. Of the matriarchs in Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus, Bathsheba stands out for her piety and refusal to submit in silence. History has often painted her as a seductress, a wrong we’ll correct in our final conversation about Jesus’s great grandmothers. (Read about her in 1 Samuel 11-12.)
