For decades, ideological American Christianity has touted the notion that wealth and power are rewards for giving to prosperity “ministries.” From Rev. Ike’s freewheeling talk about money as proof of God’s love to the Name-It-Claim-It movement and in much of today’s megachurch world, this idea continues to poison pulpits. Unaddressed questions: Why are economic gaps widening in America? Why is poverty still a problem? What would Jesus tell us?
