Sometimes millennial distance dulls our appreciation of key theological terms. Classic case: are

the nuances that distinguish redemption and salvation. Christianity emerged in a culture of

enslavement, where freedom often had a real price. This was very useful for our early

theologians and helps explain why being “redeemed” is not synonymous with being “saved.”
